Cupping THERAPY
Cupping Therapy involves placing cups onto the skin and using a pump to remove some of the air, creating more of a vacuum inside the cup. This has the effect of lifting the tissues underneath, which allows stretching of the muscles and fascia, and greater blood flow, promoting more flexibility of the tissues and nutrient-rich blood to be brought into the area to stimulate healing. This is great if you have recently suffered an acute injury or surgery, or suffer from general restricted movement. After all, good bodily function is dependent on freedom of movement in the tissues, and if there is a blockage, it could create problems in that area, or elsewhere. This modality can be used on athletes and non-athletes.
*Please note this therapy is usually offered as part of a sports massage appointment, but there is scope to offer it in isolation should the situation require this. Also, please be aware that cupping is offered in-clinic only, and cannot therefore be done during mobile sessions.
How long has cupping been practiced?
People often assume cupping is a recent 'fad', but actually it has been practiced for thousands of years in one form or another annd can be traced back to ancient Egypt!
Is it painful?
Whilst some mild irritation may occur, clients generally experience little to no discomfort during the process, and the level of suction can easily be tailored to client tolerance.
