Nutrition Coaching

Whilst the majority of my day to day services tend to focus on in-clinic treatment and exercise prescription, it would not be a true holistic approach if we didn't address diet.  No matter what your motivations are to coming to use my services, diet is still a vital part of the big picture to achieve optimum health outcomes.  Consider the following:

  • Poor diet can influence the healing rate of injuries and ailments, and good quality nutrition can even help to prevent these issues from occurring in the first place.

  • Much like putting poor quality fuel in your car which will affect its performance, poor nutrition can have a detrimental effect on sporting outcomes.  This has major implications for athletes, but even in non-sporting day to day contexts it can impact quality of life by influencing certain functions such as fatigue and concentration.

  • Nutrition plays an important part in general fitness related goals.  In fact, I strongly believe that for weight loss goals, diet is even more influential than exercise!

  • Poor nutrition can bring about a huge number of health concerns such as: obesity, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, menstrual issues, compromised immune function, growth issues, low mood, and many, many more!

In the modern world on social media we have access to thousands of different sources of information about relating to just about anything.  Diets are no exception.  But as with anything else, whilst we have a lot of information at our fingertips, this can feel overwhelming because there's so much to sift through it can feel impossible to know where to start.  Furthermore, whilst a lot of information is available, this is accompanied by a lot of misinformation also.  For nutrition this is especially the case.  Online we can find many, many fad diets which frankly do not do much good.  This is because whilst they do offer very good short-term results (which attracts people in the first-place), these are almost always completely unsustainable in the long term.  In fact, a lot of these can do severe damage in the long run by affecting body composition and can even cause malnourishment due to severe calorie restrictions - essentially you're just starving yourself.  To achieve this calorie deficit, the foods that these diets prescribe often contain very little nutritional value, so whilst you may lose weight, it's not healthy.  There's nothing spectacular about the process of severe calorie restriction - you could lose weight on a diet purely consisting of McDonald's if the portion sizes were small enough, but you would soon suffer the pitfalls of not having a balanced intake of nutrients.

And what is the point in that?  Health shouldn't be just a quick fad that you pay attention to for a few weeks each January - in fact anyone seeking a quick fix should not bother contacting me in the first place.  To truly be healthy and content it is important to adopt SUSTAINABLE and healthy lifestyle habits, and that is what I am here to help you with.  Not only this, but I will help you to sift through the generic online information to help you formulate a solution which is specific to your goals.
